This chemical was first synthesized in India in 1951 as an anti malarial medication. From there it went to the Western markets where it was sold for some of its other properties. The most famous instance of this was in the States, where the drug’s name X was a portmanteau, signifying the effect which it had on its consumers. At one point in time, the distributor of the drug was quoted as “X accounted for less than 2% of our sales, but created 98% of our headaches.”
It was also featured in a movie showing a lot of drug abuse.
